what is bronze?

Bronze is one of humanity's oldest and most enduring metals — a copper-based alloy with a history stretching back over 5,000 years. Prized for its strength, beauty, and remarkable resistance to corrosion, bronze has been used for everything from ancient coins and sculptures to modern architectural details and commemorative plaques.

The alloy that makes the difference

Not all bronze is the same. Bronze is defined by what's mixed with copper, and the specific blend determines its character. We work exclusively with 90-10 tin bronze — 90% copper and 10% tin — which is widely regarded as the gold standard for cast plaques and architectural metalwork.

This traditional alloy delivers:

  • Rich, warm color — the classic golden-amber tone people associate with timeless, prestigious metalwork
  • Exceptional durability — tin bronze resists corrosion, oxidation, and weathering, even in coastal or high-humidity environments
  • Fine casting detail — the alloy flows smoothly when cast, capturing sharp lettering, fine borders, and intricate artwork with precision
  • Long-term stability — properly cared for, a tin bronze plaque will last generations without structural degradation
